Your profile
The ICS will only consider applicants who match the eligibility criteria of the SNSF Starting Grants funding scheme:
- Having a doctorate (PhD) or an equivalent qualification and at least two years of research experience after the doctorate
- You submit your application no more than 8 years after the date of your PhD defense
We are seeking researchers specializing in one or more captivating scientific fields encompassing Astrophysics, Astrobiology, Cosmology, Gravitational Physics, Planet Formation, and Planetary Science. Our focus is on individuals with proficiency in Computational Science, Data Science, High-Performance Computing, Quantum Computing, or Theoretical Modeling. In addition to their research contributions, we anticipate that successful candidates will play a pivotal role in cultivating and leading an independent science group, fostering collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of scientists.
What we offer
Successful applicants will acquire the status of Assistant Professor and will be integrated into the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich. The University of Zurich has a world-class scientific computing infrastructure that includes dedicated access to the tier-0 facilities of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano. We also have our own GPU high-performance cluster to allow for very large-scale machine learning experiments. We offer a diverse, open-minded, very international environment.
ICS members are heavily involved, with leading roles, in large national and international projects (e.g., NCCR PlanetS, Euclid, LISA Consortium, Einstein Telescope, SKA), and several groups in applied mathematics, statistics, data science, and computer-based visualization are co-affiliated with the institute. The applicant is also invited to collaborate with PhD students and Postdocs at ICS.
