Job Description
The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, is the largest center for fusion research in Europe with around 1,100 employees in Garching near Munich and Greifswald. The scientists are investigating the physical basis for a fusion power plant, which – similar to the sun – generates energy from the fusion of light atomic nuclei. The research is carried out in seven experimental and theoretical projects that aim to develop nuclear fusion into an inexhaustible and safe energy source for the future.
To support research tasks in an international team of scientists, engineers and technicians in the area of ITER Technology & Diagnostics (ITED), the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching is looking for an electrical engineering engineer as a development and operations engineer for the systems Neutral particle heating. This is used to increase the temperature of deuterium and tritium plasma for the ITER and ASDEX Upgrade fusion experiments to over 100 million Kelvin. The electrical systems required for this include powerful power supplies up to 10 kA, high-frequency circuits up to 200 kW/1 MHz and high-voltage structures up to 100 kV.
Your tasks
- Independent conception and planning of the electrical part of new experiments
- Further development and support of data collection and its components
- Further development and modernization of electrical systems and measuring systems with a large number of different sensors and analysis devices
- Independent operation of the test stands
- Ensuring trouble-free operation of the existing systems
Your skills
- Completed studies as an engineer in electrical engineering (Bachelor, FH or comparable), advantageous with a focus on high voltage and high frequency technology
- Profound knowledge in the areas of control, data acquisition and processing
- Knowledge of the relevant VDE and DGUV regulations
- Strong teamwork skills
- Good knowledge of spoken and written German and English
- Interested in working in a scientific environment
- Willingness to work in an international team
- Ability to present independently developed facts
- Thoroughness and particular reliability
We offer
