The Department of Quantum Matter Physics researches for its Advanced Technology Laboratory (LTA)

a highly qualified scientist

specialized in XPS spectroscopy to join the Chemical Analysis and Imaging Platform team.

The candidate will be responsible for acquiring and executing industrial mandates. He or she will be responsible for all aspects of the execution of XPS service mandates. This includes establishing contacts with industry partners, developing measurement protocols, collecting and analyzing data and preparing reports. Active participation in seminars, roundtables, meetings, fairs and other events related to innovative collaborations between academia and industry is an important component of the role. In addition, the candidate will contribute to the management of the LTA and encourage the activities of the chemical analysis and imaging platform. The candidate will also carry out XPS experiments for university research. This involves supporting research groups in the design of experiments, providing technical and scientific assistance to ensure optimal use of equipment, and carrying out data acquisition and analysis to facilitate publication of the Search results.

Title and skills required
Applicants must have a PhD in physics, chemistry, surface science or materials science or equivalent qualification, with in-depth knowledge of XPS and hands-on experience using the Physical Electronics VersaProbe. We expect a solid foundation in the acquisition and analysis of XPS data in the context of materials physics and surface engineering, in order to carry out projects in diverse fields such as physical chemistry, physics solid state and medical sciences. A problem-solving mindset is essential, as the candidate will be responsible for providing services to both industry and academic research groups. We additionally require three or more years of relevant work experience in academia and/or industry and a laboratory environment, including installation, operation and troubleshooting of equipment, solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, the ability to adapt to changing priorities to meet business needs and meet deadlines, exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of working effectively with diverse teams, internal and external customers and partners.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, surface science or materials science or equivalent qualtification with a deep knowledge of XPS and with practical experience using the Physical Electronics VersaProbe. We expect strong foundations in XPS data acquisition and analysis in the context of materials physics and surface engineering, to run projects from diverse fields such as physical chemistry, solid state physics and medical sciences.
