Your responsibilities
Besides managing the day-to-day activities, the Managing Director will be expected to develop a medium- and long-term vision, to take the lead in acquiring additional funding, to expand the number of both academic and private partners, to aid with the embedding of the center within the national and international research community, to develop a sustainable cost model for the services platform. She/he will report to the BVC steering committee and the UZH leadership and work in a team together with the Scientific Director (tenured professor, in preparation), the Head Research and Development (hiring in progress), the Head Services (in preparation), administrative personnel, and multiple systems administrators and software engineers and developers.
Your profile
For the position ‘Managing Director’, we are seeking candidates with the following profile:
Required:
- A research background with a PhD degree
- Managerial experience in leading a team, research group, research center, or core facility in an industrial or academic setting
- Strong affinity to scientific imaging and/or computational image analysis, preferably within the life sciences.
- An outgoing, interactive character, exceptionally strong people skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset who thrives in developing a new enterprise.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English
Beneficial:
- A Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree
- Fluent in both written and spoken German
What we offer
The position will initially be for three years, during which the BVC is in a start-up phase and for which the necessary funding has already been secured. During this phase, the center will need to prove its long-term relevance and secure sustainable funding, after which the position is planned to become a tenured appointment at the UZH.
