Job Description
HZB is a world leader in the field of highly efficient perovskite silicon tandem solar cells. In the Optics for Solar Energy department, we work on experimental and numerical optics for solar cells. Our research combines experimental expertise, such as nanoimprint-lithography and other texturing methods, with optical simulations.
As a postdoc in the Zeitenwende project, which aims to develop perovskite silicon tandem solar cells with power conversion efficiencies of 30% on industry-size silicon wafers while massively improving stability, you will develop the necessary scalable texturing methods for perovskite silicon tandem solar cells. In this way, you will get the chance to actively participate in further improving the efficiency of our solar cells and pave the way for an accelerated transfer to mass production. Our team will work closely with the perovskite tandem solar cell department headed by Prof. Dr. Steve Albrecht at the HZB.
Your Tasks
- You will develop the textures for optically and electronically optimized perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells using scalable fabrication methods.
- You will identify the critical mechanisms for efficiency maximization through structural, optical, and electronic analyses of textured solar cells.
- You will co-supervise undergraduate and doctoral students.
- You will participate in the scientific discussion and publication of the results in scientific journals, workshops, and at scientific conferences.
Your Profile
- Doctoral degree in physics, chemistry, material science, or a related field
- In-depth expertise in photovoltaics or other opto-electronic devices
- Desirable: experience in nano- and micro-texturing methods, perovskite and/or silicon solar cell fabrication
- High level of intercultural competence and ability to work in a team
Your Benefits at HZB
- A job at one of the 18 Helmholtz centres
- Work in the research environment of the science metropolis Berlin
- The opportunity to contribute together with researchers from all around the world to the development of renewable energies, energy stores and next-gen technologies for a climate-friendly future
- Career guidance, specific training offers, and networking with peers provided by the Graduate Center and Postdoc Office
- Work-life balance
- Flexible work hours with flexitime
