- Location Hamburg, Germany
Job Description
The DESY astroparticle groups are involved in the major neutrino (lceCube) and gamma-ray observatories (H.E.S.S., MAGIC, VERITAS), and among the leading institutions in the future projects CTA and lceCube-Gen2. Furthermore, DESY is a member of the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), and participates in the planned ULTRASAT satellite mission. The experimental groups collaborate in the application of modern data analysis methods, support the development of open-source scientific software, and are accompanied by a vibrant astroparticle theory group. DESY is closely connected to universities in Berlin, and is a partner in the Helmholtz Einstein International Research School in Data Science.
The DESY lceCube group is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the context of the KISS project, a national consortium of ten research centres in Germany led by the Universität Hamburg and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The main goal of this project is the development of machine learning methods for the resource-efficient simulation of complex scientific datasets in particle physics, astroparticle physics, hadron- and nuclear physics, and astronomy.
About your role:
- Work in a Germany-wide consortium with many partners on advancing state-of-the-art simulations, e.g. accelerating extensive air shower simulalions through intelligent steering, or developing and applying generative models for detector response simulation
- Participate in data analysis as a member of the lceCube Collaboration
- Lead publications and present results
- Assist in training and day-to-day supervision of students
Good reasons to join:
