The group MSK is responsible for the controls, feedback regulations and synchronization of the particle accelerators at DESY. We are an international team of technicians, engineers and scientists who develop, install and operate complex instruments for the European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser, FLASH and the storage ring PETRA III.

About your role:

  • Further development of high-precision RF field control of the superconducting cavities at EuXFEL and FLASH
  • Development of feedback control methods and algorithms for the regulation of superconducting cavities
  • Fault diagnosis and quality control towards optimal operation of LLRF systems and investigations of RF trips
  • Construction and operation of RF test stands for the operation of very-high quality factor superconducting cavities
  • Documentation and maintenance of the LLRF systems

About you:

  • MSc. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent qualification; PhD degree is a plus
  • Advanced understanding in the theory and the application of feedback control and automation of complex plants
  • Computer science skills in Linux, Python, Matlab (competence in firmware and software is a plus)
  • Experience in RF control of superconducting cavities is advantageous
  • Strong motivation and pragmatism towards problem solving as well as highly proficient English skills
