Description of the offer
In close collaboration with the instrument manager, the technician will be the technical referent of the SHARP+ instrument. Its missions will be:
- Provide repair, maintenance and upkeep of the instrument and its sample environments.
- Prepare, install and operate sample spectrometer environments, e.g. ovens, “orange” cryostats, dilution cryostats, displexes, high field coils.
- Assist the scientific team of the instrument and the external users in the preparation and the realization of their experiments. Discussions are mainly in English.
- Ensure the machining (milling, lathe, drilling) of small mechanical adaptation parts at short notice.
- Ensure administrative tasks for the supply of new small equipment and spare parts.
- Welcome and supervise subcontractors who may be called upon to work on the instrument.
- Ensure and implement measures to maintain the instrument in compliance with security obligations, in particular radiological.
- Propose , draw (CAD) and produce complex mechanical and electrical parts for the needs of the research work of the scientific team of the instrument.
- Under the supervision of the ILL cryogenics department, ensure the design, manufacture and assembly of a dilution cryostat dedicated to the instrument. The implementation of this equipment will be carried out with good autonomy.
- If necessary, assume the role of backup technician for the SAM spectrometer, also based at the ILL and managed by the LLB.
Candidate profile
Recommended training :
BAC +2 or BAC +3 , with a DUT in physical measurements as a basic diploma. Training in Cryogenics and CAD. Additional training in electronics would be appreciated.
The candidate must have at least 10 years of experience , and have worked on TGIR in particular INB.
SKILLS :
– Metrology: Precision alignment of parts and organs from the spectrometer to the laser tracker,
– Handling of the traveling crane: Installation of sample environments or disassembly/assembly of certain spectrometer components,
– Electrical inspection: Detection and repair of faults or electrical breakdowns,
– CAD: Industrial design for the manufacture of mechanical parts,
– Mechanical: Production of mechanical parts (drilling, milling, lathe).
Personal and relational qualities: – Demonstrate autonomy,
– Have a good relationship to exchange with the internal and external users of the instrument with if necessary exchanges in English,
– Be able to propose evolutions on the sample environments,
– Motivation to develop new experimental assemblies at the service of the collective: proposal for the evolution of sample environments,
– Team spirit.
A good level of spoken and written English is essential.
Regular trips to Saclay (about once a month)
Line manager at Saclay but day-to-day supervision by the Sharp+ referent at ILL.
